General up keep of your hardwood floor requires periodic over coats, this process involves a degrease wash and clean of the floor then a light buff usually with diamond sanding disc’s, this helps with the adhesion of any new coatings.   Most light  scratches’ on top of the coating will disappear  however any deep scratches may still be left in the timber. This should be done before the existing coating shows any sign of wear.
